Ríkislögreglustjóri, í samráði við lögreglustjórann á Suðurlandi, lýsir yfir óvissustigi Almannavarna vegna jökulhlaups úr Mýrdalsjökli. Rafleiðni hefur farið hækkandi í Skálm frá því seinnipartinn 7. september ásamt því að vatnshæð árinnar hefur farið eilítið vaxandi og því talið að jökulhlaup sé hafið.
Engin hlaupórói mælist að svo stöddu á jarðskjálftamælum við Mýrdalsjökul.
The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in consultation with the Chief of Police in South Iceland, has rised the alert level to uncertainty due to a glacial outburst flood (jökulhlaup) from Mýrdalsjökull. Electrical conductivity has been increasing in the river Skálm since the afternoon of September 7th, along with a slight rise in the river’s water level, which suggests that a glacial outburst flood has begun.
At this time, no flood-related tremors are being detected on seismometers near Mýrdalsjökull.
The situation is being closely monitored. Visitors to the area are advised to exercise caution.
