Vegna veðurs vill Lögreglustjórinn á Suðurnesjum hvetja fólk sem leggur leið sína að eldgosinu í Geldingardölum í dag að yfirgefa elgosasvæðið fyrir klukkan fimm í dag, þriðjudaginn 23. mars. Samkvæmt spám Veðurstofu Íslands er í dag suðvestlæg átt og mun draga smám saman úr vindi. Eftir klukkan 19:00 má gera ráð fyrir að vindur sé undir 3 m/s og því getur magn SO2 nálægt eldstöðinni farið yfir 9000 µg/m3.
Því getur skapast mikil hætta fyrir fólk sem er þar á staðnum. Miðað við vindaspá næst gosstöðvunum er því líklegt að loftgæði í næsta nágrenni gosstöðvanna og að gasmengun frá CO2 í dældum og lægðum nálgist lífshættuleg gildi.
Almennt er ráðlegt að halda sér uppi á hæðum og ekki fara niður í dali eða dældir í næsta nágrenni gosstöðvanna og halda sér innan stikuðu gönguleiðarinnar. Sjá heimasíðu Veðurstofu Íslands.
The eruption sites evacuated at 5pm today
Due to weather, the Chief of Police in Suðurnes wants to urge people who make their way to the volcanic eruption in Geldingardalir today to leave the eruption site before 5pm today, Tuesday March 23. According to the Icelandic Met Office’s forecast the wind is southwesterly today and will slowly fade. After 7pm it may be assumed that the wind will be under 3 m/s and the SO2 level near the eruption site therefore exceed 9000 µg/m3.
This can therefore create great danger for people who are there onsite. With view of the wind forecast closest to the eruption sites it is therefore likely that the air quality in the closest vicinity of the eruption sites and gas pollution from CO2 in dells and hollows will verge upon a life-threatening value.
It is therefore advisable to stay up on hills and not go down into valleys or dells in the closest vicinity of the eruption sites and stay within the staked hiking trail. See the Icelandic Met Office’s website.

Miejsce erupcji będzie ewakuowane dzisiaj o godz 17:00
Ze względu na pogodę komendant policji w Suðurnes chce zachęcić osoby, które dziś udają się na erupcję w Geldingardalur, do opuszczenia obszaru erupcji, we wtorek 23 marca czyli dzisiaj do godziny piątej.Według prognoz Islandzkiego Urzędu Meteorologicznego, dziś wiatr jest południowo-zachodni i będzie ulegał stopniowo zmniejszeniu. Po godzinie 19:00 można przyjąć, że wiatr będzie wiał poniżej 3 m / s, a zatem ilość SO2 w pobliżu wulkanu może przekroczyć 9000 µg / m3.
Może to być bardzo niebezpieczne dla osób, które tam są. Opierając się na prognozie wiatru dotyczącej najbliżych miejsc erupcji, jest prawdopodobne, że jakość powietrza w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie miejsca erupcji oraz zanieczyszczenie gazem CO2 w depresjach i dolinach zbliżą się do wartości zagrażających życiu.
Dlatego wskazane jest pozostawanie na wzniesieniach i nie schodzenie do dolin lub zagłębień w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie miejsc erupcji i pozostawanie w obrębie wyznaczonej ścieżki spacerowej.
