Eldgos er hafið á Reykjanesskaga nærri Sundhnúkum norðan við Grindavík og virðist staðsett norðaustan við Sýlingafell. Eldgosið hófst klukkan 12:46 og er á svipuðum slóðum og fyrri gos á Sundhnúksgígaröðinni. Grindavík, Bláa lónið og orkuverið í Svartsengi voru rýmd fyrir hádegi í dag. Sú aðgerð gekk vel. An eruption has begun on the Reykjanes Peninsula near Sundhnúkar north of Grindavík and appears to be located northeast of Sýlingafell. The eruption started at 12:46 and is following a similar path to the previous eruption in the Sundhnúkur volcanic fissure swarm. Grindavík, the Blue Lagoon, and the Svartsengi geothermal power plant were evacuated before noon today. The evacuation went well.
Response teams are active in Grindavík. Despite recommendations from response teams to leave the town, three residents remain in Grindavík. Such actions are not advisable.
