Announcement from the National Commissioner of Police and the Chief of Police in East Iceland.
- The alert level Uncertainty remains in force for the region of East Iceland due to the risk of landslides.
- An Emergency alert level is in force in Seyðisfjörður – Evacuation is in progress and travel to the area is prohibited.
- The alert level in Eskifjörður is Danger and a partial evacuation is in progress.
Seyðisfjörður:
Non-essential travel to Seyðisfjörður is prohibited. An assessment of the damage caused by the landslides in recent days will be conducted today. The risk of further landslides will also be assessed. Particular attention will be paid to the extent of damage to infrastructure in Seyðisfjörður. Police will supervise the assessment and will be assisted by the rescue teams on site.
The Emergency alert level remains in force in Seyðisfjörður after landslides hit the town yesterday. The town has been evacuated and the population transferred to the Red Cross emergency reception center in Egilsstaðir. At least eleven houses have been damaged, although more detailed assessments will be carried out today.
One further landslide fell on the area of Búðará early this morning, although it is not believed to have caused much damage. That landslide does however indicate a high level of instability in the sedimentary strata of the surrounding mountains.
Eskifjörður:
A partial evacuation of Eskifjörður remains in force today. Houses in several streets were evacuated yesterday afternoon when it was discovered that fissures in the mountains above the town in the area of Oddskarðsvegur, had expanded. Specialists from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, Vegagerðin and Fjarðabyggð will the assess conditions on the ground today. It is hoped that the results will be available early this afternoon.
An information update will be sent out between 1pm and 2pm today.

Nieistotne podróże do Seyðisfjörður są zabronione. Dzisiaj zostanie przeprowadzona ocena szkód spowodowanych przez osuwiska ziemi w ostatnich dniach. Ocenione zostanie również ryzyko dalszych osuwisk.
Szczególna uwaga zostanie zwrócona na zakres szkód w infrastrukturze w Seyðisfjörður. Policja będzie nadzorować ocenę i będzie wspomagana przez zespoły ratownicze na miejscu. Poziom alarmu awaryjnego nadal obowiązuje w Seyðisfjörður po wczorajszym osuwiskach ziemi.
Miasto zostało ewakuowane, a ludność przeniesiona do ośrodka przyjęć ratunkowych Czerwonego Krzyża w Egilsstaðir. Co najmniej jedenaście domów zostało uszkodzonych, chociaż dzisiaj zostaną przeprowadzone bardziej szczegółowe oceny.
Jeszcze jedno osunięcie się ziemi spadło dziś rano w rejonie Búðará, chociaż uważa się, że nie spowodowało ono większych szkód. To osuwisko wskazuje jednak na wysoki poziom niestabilności warstw osadowych okolicznych gór.
Eskifjörður:
Częściowa ewakuacja Eskifjörður obowiązuje do dziś. Domy przy kilku ulicach ewakuowano wczoraj po południu, kiedy odkryto, że pęknięcia w górach nad miastem w rejonie Oddskarðsvegur rozszerzyły się. Specjaliści z Islandzkiego Urzędu Meteorologicznego, Vegagerðin i Fjarðabyggð dokonają dziś oceny warunków na ziemi. Mamy nadzieję, że wyniki będą dostępne wczesnym popołudniem. Aktualizacja informacji zostanie wysłana dzisiaj między 13:00 a 14:00.
